Metabolic adaptation is the standard toll of a long deficit, and the vest group was the only one that did not pay it.
The measurement lesson generalizes well past vests. Dose in this trial was defined as hours worn. The variable that actually carried the stimulus was hours loaded. Any protocol whose adherence metric is a proxy rather than the stimulus itself can read as 95 percent compliant while delivering close to nothing.
