What's the difference between a native AI health integration and a connector app?
Two things happened close together this month. On July 23, 2026, OpenAI took ChatGPT Health nationwide to every US user 18 and older, free on every plan, on the web and iOS (OpenAI, July 23, 2026). Separately, Anthropic had already rolled Apple Health and Android Health Connect support into the Claude iOS and Android apps in beta back in January 2026, limited to Claude Pro and Max subscribers in the US (Anthropic, January 11, 2026). Both are native features: built by the assistant's own company, living inside that company's own app, reading whatever you connect.
Wellness Project is a different kind of thing: a separate AI health platform that logs your workouts, meals, sleep, and recovery from plain-English chat, connects Fitbit and Oura directly, and reads Apple Health and Health Connect for the rest, then serves that same data to ChatGPT, Claude, Grok, and Mistral from one server rather than being locked to a single assistant's app.
Can ChatGPT Health or Claude's health integration log a workout or meal for me?
No, and this is true of both, without exception. ChatGPT Health can examine your connected Apple Health data but cannot alter it: it cannot add a measurement, change a medication list, or write anything new back into Apple Health. Claude's own Help Center is just as direct: Claude can read health data but cannot write or modify entries in Apple Health. Mention a workout to either assistant and it stays in that conversation; it does not become a saved entry anywhere.
Wellness Project is built for the opposite job. "Log my run: 4 miles in 35 minutes easy" becomes a structured, saved entry immediately, whether you say it to Wellness Project directly or to ChatGPT, Claude, Grok, or Mistral through the connected server.
Which wearables do ChatGPT Health and Claude actually read?
Neither reads the major non-Apple wearables directly. As of July 2026, ChatGPT Health's documented sources are Apple Health, MyFitnessPal, Function Health, One Medical, and hospital records through Epic or Oracle Health. Claude's are Apple Health, Android Health Connect, HealthEx, and Function Health. Fitbit, Oura, Whoop, Garmin, Coros, Polar, and Amazfit appear on neither list; the only way their data reaches either assistant natively is if the device already syncs into Apple Health or Health Connect, and since ChatGPT Health has no Android app, an Android Whoop, Garmin, or Coros user has no route into it at all today.
Wellness Project connects Fitbit and Oura directly over OAuth, and reads everything else through Apple Health on iPhone or Health Connect on Android, on both platforms.
Which platforms and regions does each one support?
ChatGPT Health runs on the web and the iOS app; there is no Android app, so Android users cannot use it regardless of device. Claude's health integration runs only inside the Claude iOS and Android apps, not claude.ai in a browser and not Claude Desktop. Both are US-only as of July 2026; ChatGPT Health is explicitly blocked in the EU, UK, and Switzerland. Neither is available anywhere else in the world.
Wellness Project is not region-locked and the marketing site serves 12 languages, and it runs on iPhone, Android, web, and Claude Desktop, so it covers every surface neither native integration reaches.

Read the price row carefully: it runs opposite ways for the two companies, ChatGPT Health free everywhere and Claude's gated behind Pro or Max, so a blanket claim that native integrations always cost more would be wrong for one of the two. And the medical-records row goes the other way entirely: both native integrations reach real clinical data that Wellness Project does not touch.
What can the native integrations do that Wellness Project can't?
Read patient medical records. ChatGPT Health connects to hospital systems running Epic or Oracle Health, the two record systems most US hospitals use, plus One Medical (TechCrunch, July 23, 2026). Claude's HealthEx connector reaches patient records across more than 50,000 provider organizations under the federal TEFCA interoperability standard (HealthEx, January 2026). Wellness Project has no equivalent connector and does not claim one. If your goal is pulling an actual clinical chart, lab-result history, or visit notes into an AI conversation, both native integrations do that and Wellness Project does not.
So which one do you need?
Use ChatGPT Health if you want your Apple Health data and a connected hospital record in one free dashboard, on the web or an iPhone, in the US. Use Claude's native integration if you already pay for Pro or Max, mostly use the Claude phone apps, and want the same read plus a HealthEx medical-record connection. Both are read-only, both are US-only, and neither logs anything for you.
Reach for Wellness Project when you want to log training and food by talking, wear a Fitbit or Oura ring, use Android or Claude Desktop, live outside the US, or want the same connected data available across more than one assistant. For most people who actually track their health day to day, that is the piece a native read-only dashboard was never built to cover, and running a connector alongside a native integration, not instead of it, is the honest answer.
