What is ChatGPT Health?
ChatGPT Health is a dedicated health section inside ChatGPT itself, not a separate app. OpenAI first previewed it in January 2026, then took it to general availability for every US user 18 or older on July 23, 2026, on the web and the iOS app, across the Free, Go, Plus, and Pro plans. Once you connect a data source, ChatGPT shows a dashboard of your health information and answers questions grounded in it, such as how your resting heart rate has trended or what a lab value means.
It is read-only by design. ChatGPT Health can look at what you connect; it cannot add a diagnosis, change a medication list, log a new measurement, or otherwise write anything back to a connected source (OpenAI, July 23, 2026).
What is Wellness Project?
Wellness Project is a separate AI health platform, not a feature inside ChatGPT. It logs workouts, meals, sleep, and recovery from plain-English chat messages, connects Fitbit and Oura directly over OAuth, and reads Apple Health and Google Health Connect for everything else. It reaches ChatGPT, Claude, Grok, and Mistral from one server rather than living inside a single company's app, and it keeps a server-side history that does not depend on what your phone's hub currently holds.
Can ChatGPT Health log a workout or meal for me?
No. This is the clearest functional gap between the two. ChatGPT Health reads whatever you connect and answers questions about it, but it has no path to write new data anywhere. Tell it about today's run in conversation and that stays in the chat transcript; it does not become a saved entry in Apple Health, MyFitnessPal, or anywhere else.
Wellness Project is built for the opposite job. "Log my run: 4 miles in 35 minutes easy" becomes a structured, saved entry the moment you send it, whether you are talking to Wellness Project directly, or to ChatGPT, Claude, Grok, or Mistral through the same connected server. If logging by talking is the feature you actually want, ChatGPT Health does not do it.
Which wearables does ChatGPT Health actually read?
As of July 2026, OpenAI's own documentation lists Apple Health, MyFitnessPal, Function Health, One Medical, and hospital records reachable through Epic or Oracle Health as ChatGPT Health's connected sources (OpenAI Help Center). Fitbit, Oura, Whoop, Garmin, Coros, Polar, and Amazfit do not appear on that list. Since ChatGPT Health has no Android app, Android's Health Connect hub is not a path in either, so an Android Whoop or Garmin user has no route into ChatGPT Health at all today.
Wellness Project connects Fitbit and Oura directly, and reads everything else, Garmin, Whoop, Coros, Polar, Amazfit, through Apple Health on iPhone or Health Connect on Android, on both platforms.
| Feature | ChatGPT Health | Wellness Project |
|---|---|---|
| Price | Free (all plans, incl. Free tier) | Free (early access) |
| Platforms | Web, iOS (no Android app) | iPhone, Android, web, Claude Desktop |
| Region | US only | Not region-locked, 12 languages |
| Logs a workout or meal by chat | ||
| Connects Fitbit or Oura directly | ||
| Reads Apple Health | ||
| Reads Android Health Connect | ||
| Reads hospital records (Epic, Oracle Health) | ||
| Derived scores (Fit Score, est. 1RM, fatigue map) | ||
| Works inside Claude, Grok, or Mistral too |
The two rows worth sitting with are the ones that do not favor Wellness Project. ChatGPT Health is free on every plan, including its Free tier, so there is no fair claim that a native integration always costs more. And it reaches into hospital-system medical records that Wellness Project does not touch at all.
Where ChatGPT Health wins: medical records
As of July 2026, ChatGPT Health connects to hospital systems running Epic or Oracle Health, the two record systems most US hospitals actually use, plus One Medical (TechCrunch, July 23, 2026). That means lab results, visit notes, and clinical history from a connected health system can land inside ChatGPT alongside your Apple Health data. Wellness Project has no medical-records connector. If pulling your actual clinical chart into an AI conversation is what you need, ChatGPT Health does that and Wellness Project does not.
So, ChatGPT Health or Wellness Project?
They are not really competing for the same job. ChatGPT Health is the fastest way to get a hospital-system medical record and your Apple Health data into one place and ask questions about it, free, on the web or an iPhone, in the US. Wellness Project is the layer that logs your day by chat, connects the wearables ChatGPT Health does not read, keeps history longer than a phone hub does, and turns raw numbers into scores like Fit Score and estimated one-rep max.
If your priority is a clinical record and lab results in one dashboard, use ChatGPT Health. If your priority is logging training and food by talking, wearing a Fitbit or Oura ring, or using Android, Claude, Grok, or Mistral instead of ChatGPT specifically, Wellness Project is the piece that is actually missing. Plenty of people end up running both.
