How to connect Apple Health to Gemini

On iPhone, Wellness Project reads Apple Health only after you grant on-device Health permissions. There is no Apple account login and no cloud-side Apple Health API involved. Gemini Spark then reads the synced history through Wellness Project's custom MCP app in Gemini Spark, rather than signing into Apple Health itself.

Connect Apple Health to Wellness Project first, then authorize Gemini through Wellness Project's MCP connection so the assistant can query the supported synced history.

What Apple Health data reaches Gemini

Apple Health is the iPhone health-data hub, so the useful question is not whether the AI provider has an Apple Health integration. It does not. Wellness Project reads the HealthKit categories you authorize on-device, stores the supported history in your Wellness Project account, and exposes that structured history to the assistant.

That can include steps and activity, sleep, heart rate and resting heart rate, HRV, workouts, and body measurements when those records are present and you grant permission. Data from an Apple Watch or a third-party iPhone app only reaches the assistant if that source wrote it into Apple Health first.

Gemini does not receive a bulk wearable export. It asks Wellness Project for the supported rows needed for the question, through the authorized custom MCP app in Gemini Spark.

How to connect Apple Health to Gemini

Your setup screen may look different.

AI assistants change their settings and navigation frequently. Menu names and steps can vary by web, desktop, or mobile client, device and operating system, plan, account type, version, and staged rollout. Treat the instructions on this page as a current guide and look for the equivalent Apps, Connectors, Plugins, or MCP controls if your version differs.

  1. 1

Connect Apple Health in Wellness Project

Install Wellness Project on your iPhone, open Settings → Devices → Apple Health, and grant read permission for the categories you want to use. Apple Health access is on-device; the assistant never receives your Apple credentials.

  2. 2

Confirm the health history is present

Open Wellness Project and check that the recent steps, sleep, heart, workout, or body rows you expect have synced. If a source app never wrote a metric to Apple Health, Wellness Project cannot manufacture it.

  3. 3

Add Wellness Project as a custom app in Gemini Spark

Open gemini.google.com/spark, go to Settings → Personal intelligence → Connected apps → Add custom app, paste https://wellnessproject.ai/api/mcp, leave client credentials blank, and sign in to authorize Wellness Project.

  4. 4

Ask Gemini about your real history

Start with a bounded date range and a concrete question. For example: "Compare my sleep duration and resting heart rate over the last six weeks. What changed?" The assistant can then request the relevant Wellness Project rows instead of reasoning from a screenshot or one-off export.

What to ask Gemini once Apple Health is connected

The useful prompts compare your own history over time. These examples are shaped around the data this source actually sends to Wellness Project.

  • Compare my sleep duration and resting heart rate over the last six weeks. What changed?
  • Which weeks had the most consistent step count, and did my sleep look different during them?
  • Show how my HRV trend moved around my hardest workout weeks.

Limits of the Apple Health → Wellness Project → Gemini path

Apple Health is permissioned category by category. A missing metric can mean the source app never wrote it, the category was not authorized, or the iPhone has not had a chance to sync it into Wellness Project yet.

The external assistant reads Wellness Project over MCP. It is not receiving a native Apple Health feed and it should not be treated as a medical-device interpretation of HealthKit data.

Gemini is reading an authorized Wellness Project MCP connection, not a native Apple Health integration supplied by Gemini's developer.

Connect Apple Health, then ask Gemini.

Sync the supported history into Wellness Project, authorize Gemini, and ask questions against your real trend instead of exporting files or pasting screenshots.

Frequently asked questions

Does Gemini connect directly to Apple Health?+

No. On iPhone, Wellness Project reads Apple Health only after you grant on-device Health permissions. There is no Apple account login and no cloud-side Apple Health API involved. Gemini connects to Wellness Project through its custom MCP app in Gemini Spark, not to Apple Health itself.

What Apple Health data can Gemini read?+

Supported categories you authorize can include steps and activity, sleep, heart rate and resting heart rate, HRV, workouts, and body measurements when those records exist in Apple Health.

Why is a metric in Apple Health missing from the assistant?+

The assistant can only read supported rows that reached Wellness Project. Check that the source app wrote the metric into Apple Health, that Wellness Project has permission for that category, and that the iPhone has synced recently.

Does Gemini connect directly to the wearable account?+

No. Gemini Spark connects to Wellness Project as a custom MCP app. Wellness Project handles the wearable or workout-source connection and exposes the synced history to Gemini.

Can I revoke Gemini access later?+

Yes. Remove the Wellness Project connection in Gemini, or disconnect Apple Health from Wellness Project. The assistant only has access while the authorized MCP connection and the underlying source remain connected.
