How the relay actually works
Our founder runs this exact chain every morning: a cheap Wyze scale, the Wyze app writing to Apple Health, Wellness Project reading Apple Health, and Claude reading Wellness Project. Step on the scale, and a few minutes later he can ask Claude whether the weight is trending down or just bouncing. No spreadsheet, no export, no MCP server to self-host. A forty-dollar scale ends up feeding the same AI he uses for everything else.
Here is the honest part, because it is the whole point. There is no direct link between any scale brand and Wellness Project, and there is no smart-scale MCP server you connect to. Your scale talks to its own companion app, and that app writes your weight and body fat into the health hub already built into your phone: Apple Health on iPhone, Google Health Connect on Android. Wellness Project reads that hub, structures the readings into one continuous history, and serves that history to Claude and ChatGPT over a single MCP connection. The real chain is scale to Apple Health or Health Connect, then Wellness Project, then Claude or ChatGPT. We never touch your scale brand directly, and we do not pretend to.
Set it up in four steps
The setup is short because the phone does the heavy lifting. Get your scale writing to the hub first, let Wellness Project read it, then point Claude or ChatGPT at your account.
Sync your scale into your phone hub
Open your scale app (Wyze, Renpho, EufyLife, or whatever brand you own) and turn on its health-sync option. On iPhone that is Apple Health: allow the app to write weight and body composition. On Android that is Health Connect: grant the same categories, and check the app settings for a Health Connect toggle, since some scale apps still default to the older Google Fit and may not reach Health Connect. The hub is the intermediary that holds every reading your scale takes.
Let Wellness Project read the hub
In the Wellness Project app, grant Apple Health or Health Connect permission. It reads what your scale deposited and structures it into one history: your weight trend and body-fat changes, keyed to your baseline. This is a read of the hub, not a connection to your scale brand.
Add the MCP connector to Claude or ChatGPT
Add the Wellness Project connector to Claude (via MCP) or ChatGPT (via the connector). One connection is all it takes, and it covers everything in your hub, not just the scale. Claude and ChatGPT are the two AI assistants Wellness Project supports today.
Ask about your weight trend
Ask Claude or ChatGPT how your weight is trending, whether your body fat moved this month, or how this week compares to last quarter. Tools like show_body_weight and list_body_metrics render a live chart of the trend right in the chat, not a wall of raw JSON, so you see the line, not just a number.
That is the entire flow. No scale login on our side, no real-time promise we cannot keep. Freshness tracks whenever your scale app syncs to the hub, and Wellness Project reads it from there.
Android: it is Health Connect now, not Google Fit
On Android the wording trips people up. The current hub is Google Health Connect, and Google is winding down the older Google Fit. The problem is that many scale apps have not caught up: Renpho and Eufy documentation, for instance, still commonly points Android users at Google Fit rather than Health Connect. If your scale app writes only to Google Fit, those readings may never reach Health Connect, which means Wellness Project will not see them.
The fix is to open your scale app settings and look for a Health Connect option, then turn it on. Wyze is a good example of the catch: its Scale, Scale S, and Scale X still write only to Google Fit and Fitbit on Android, and only the newer Scale Ultra Bodyscan added native Health Connect, so most Wyze owners need to check the app for a Health Connect toggle before assuming it is there. If your app still offers only Google Fit, the cleaner route today is an iPhone with Apple Health, where every mainstream scale writes weight and body fat reliably. Whichever platform you use, you add exactly one connector to Claude or ChatGPT and read everything in one place.
Why a live trend beats a one-time CSV export
The usual advice for getting scale data into a chatbot is to export a CSV from your scale app and paste it in. That answers exactly one question: what happened in the file you pasted, today. Tomorrow you are back to exporting and pasting again, and the assistant has no memory of last month because you never gave it last month.
The relay gives the AI your whole history instead of a snapshot. Because your weigh-ins keep flowing through the hub into Wellness Project, Claude or ChatGPT can answer the questions a single CSV cannot: is this drop water or a real four-week trend, is my body fat actually moving, did the plateau start when my sleep fell apart. A paste answers today's number. A living history answers the trend, and the trend is the only thing worth weighing yourself for.
Your scale data, without the subscription
Plenty of scale companion apps put trends, body-composition breakdowns, and any hint of insight behind a monthly or yearly subscription, on top of the scale you already bought. You paid for the hardware and now you pay again to see your own line move.
Wellness Project reads the same weight and body-fat data straight from Apple Health or Health Connect and is free during early access. No paywall on your trend, no upsell to see this month against last month. The scale measures, the hub stores, and the AI reads it, all without a companion-app subscription in the middle.
Put your scale numbers in front of an AI that remembers them.
Sync any smart scale to Apple Health or Health Connect, store it in Wellness Project, and let Claude or ChatGPT read your weight and body-fat trend against your baseline. Free during early access.
