What ChatGPT can and cannot see
What crosses over is the recorded activity: the distance, pace, duration, and heart rate for each run or ride Strava wrote into your phone's health hub. Wellness Project structures that into your training history, and ChatGPT reads it from there.
What stays behind is the social layer. Segments, kudos, comments, and your Strava feed live in Strava and never travel to Wellness Project or ChatGPT. ChatGPT sees the workout you did, not the app you did it in.
Is there a Strava MCP server?
There is no Strava MCP server from Wellness Project. The path is Strava to Apple Health or Health Connect to Wellness Project to ChatGPT, over one MCP connection. Community-built Strava MCP servers that talk to the Strava API directly do exist, and if you want to run one yourself, that option is out there.
What this path gives you instead is one connection, not one per device. Your Strava workouts sit next to your sleep, your heart rate, and every other device you have connected to Wellness Project, all in the same history, with nothing for you to host or maintain.
For most people asking ChatGPT to reason about a training block, that trade favors this path: fewer connectors, one place your whole picture lives.
Set it up in five steps
The whole setup runs through your phone's existing health hub, not a Strava developer key or an API token you generate yourself.
Your setup screen may look different.
AI assistants change their settings and navigation frequently. Menu names and steps can vary by web, desktop, or mobile client, device and operating system, plan, account type, version, and staged rollout. Treat the instructions on this page as a current guide and look for the equivalent Apps, Connectors, Plugins, or MCP controls if your version differs.
Get the Wellness Project app
Download Wellness Project for iPhone or Android with the buttons above, or sign in on the web. Signing in with Apple or Google takes one tap, the app has Free Basic, with Founder Pro at $4.99/month through October 15, and this is the app that stores your synced history and serves it to Claude and ChatGPT over MCP.
Let Strava write workouts to your phone's health hub
On iPhone, open Strava's settings and turn on the Apple Health connection so every run or ride you record gets written into Apple Health. On Android, Strava's write support into Google Health Connect is limited, so a Garmin or other recording device syncing straight to Health Connect will usually carry more of your training than Strava's own relay does.
Connect Wellness Project to that hub
Sign up for Wellness Project on iPhone, Android, or web, then connect Apple Health or Health Connect and grant read permission. From then on, whatever Strava writes into the hub gets pulled into your Wellness Project history automatically, with no manual export.
Add the Wellness Project MCP connector to ChatGPT
Add Wellness Project as a custom app in ChatGPT using the /api/mcp endpoint shown on your Wellness Project settings page, then sign in with your Wellness Project account over OAuth. No API key is needed. This is the one connection ChatGPT reads your Strava-sourced data through, so you set it up once rather than pasting a screenshot into every chat.
Ask about your data in plain language
Open a chat and ask about your training the way you would ask a coach. ChatGPT reads the structured history behind your answer instead of a single activity you happened to paste in.
What to ask ChatGPT once it is connected
The prompts worth asking span time, because that is what the connection actually buys you over scrolling your own feed.
Try "what was my weekly mileage over the last six weeks?" or "is my pace on easy runs trending faster this training block?" Try "how did my ride volume this month compare to my sleep the same weeks?" to pull Strava alongside data from another device entirely. ChatGPT answers from your structured history, not the single ride you happen to be thinking about.
Give ChatGPT your real runs and rides.
Let Strava write to your phone's hub, connect Wellness Project to it, and add the Wellness Project app in ChatGPT. Free Basic, with Founder Pro at $4.99/month through October 15.
