How to connect your Fitbit or Fitbit Air to AI

Fitbit ships no MCP server of its own. Wellness Project connects to Fitbit through the Google Health API, stores the synced history, and serves it to Claude, ChatGPT, Grok and Mistral Le Chat over one MCP server. This guide covers the Google Health connection, the connector steps for each assistant, and what is different if you use Grok or Mistral Le Chat instead of Claude or ChatGPT.

What changed when Fitbit became Google Health

Your Fitbit device is unchanged. The app it syncs to became Google Health in May 2026, and the Fitbit Web API that developers used sunsets on September 30, 2026, which is why the connection now runs on Google's Health API.

Nothing about the hardware or the tracking changed, only the app your data flows into and the API that a service like Wellness Project uses to read it. If you want the difference between Google Fit, Health Connect, and Google Health spelled out, that comparison covers all three. For this guide, the only thing that matters is that Fitbit now syncs through Google Health, and Wellness Project reads it from there.

There is no Fitbit MCP server, and here is what works instead

Fitbit ships no MCP server of its own. Wellness Project connects to Fitbit through the Google Health API, stores the synced history, and serves it to Claude, ChatGPT, Grok and Mistral Le Chat over one MCP server. That single server is what makes the rest of this guide short: connect Fitbit once, add the connector to whichever assistant you use, and the same synced history is available in all of them.

There is no assistant-specific Fitbit setup beyond that. Claude, ChatGPT, Grok, and Mistral Le Chat each add the Wellness Project MCP server as a connector in their own settings, and each one then reads the identical rows Google Health synced from your Fitbit.

Set it up in five steps

Fitbit syncs to Google Health, Wellness Project reads Google Health, and the MCP connector carries that history into your assistant of choice. Each step takes about a minute and the setup is one-time.

  1. 1

    Get the Wellness Project app

Download Wellness Project for iPhone or Android with the buttons above, or sign in on the web. Signing in with Apple or Google takes one tap, the account is free during early access, and this is the app that stores your synced history and serves it to Claude and ChatGPT over MCP.

  2. 2

    Connect Fitbit through Google Health

In Wellness Project, open Settings, then Devices, then Fitbit, and sign in through Google Health. In-app the connection is still named Fitbit, even though the sync runs on the Google Health API behind it. Steps, Active Zone Minutes, sleep stages, and resting heart rate start syncing automatically.

  3. 3

Add the Wellness Project MCP connector to Claude

In claude.ai, add wellnessproject.ai/api/mcp as a custom connector and authorize it through your Wellness Project account. Claude Desktop syncs the connector from claude.ai. Skip this step if Claude is not one of the assistants you use.

  4. 4

Add the connector to ChatGPT, Grok, or Mistral Le Chat

Add the same Wellness Project MCP server to ChatGPT and Grok the same way; both register the connector automatically, with no Client ID needed. Mistral Le Chat is the one assistant that asks for a Client ID before it will connect, and /integrations/mistral has the one to paste.

  5. 5

Ask about your data in plain language

Open a chat in whichever assistant you connected and ask about your Fitbit history directly. The assistant reads the structured rows Wellness Project synced from Google Health and answers from your actual numbers, not a single screenshot.

What a systematic read of Fitbit data actually gives you

Fitbit's own measure is Active Zone Minutes, a heart-rate-zone weighted read on exercise intensity that most other trackers do not compute the same way, and it syncs into Google Health roughly once an hour rather than once a day. That cadence matters for anyone running a structured protocol: the data an assistant reads is close to real time, not yesterday's snapshot.

Read against your own steps, sleep stages, and resting heart rate over weeks, Active Zone Minutes becomes a variable you can test against, not just a daily score. A protocol built on that history measures the actual effect of a change on your body, rather than asking an assistant to guess from a description of how a week felt.

Atlas Mercer reads this for you.

Grok and Mistral Le Chat read the same history

The MCP server does not treat Claude and ChatGPT as first-class and the rest as an afterthought. Grok reads the identical synced Fitbit rows and registers the connector itself, no Client ID involved. Mistral Le Chat reads the same rows too, once its one extra step, pasting a Client ID, is done.

Practically, that means the assistant is a preference, not a data decision. Whichever one you talk to most, or switch between, is reading from the same Fitbit history synced through Google Health.

What about Fitbit Air

Fitbit Air is Google's current Fitbit hardware line. It syncs to the Google Health app the same way older Fitbit devices do, so the connection path in this guide is identical: Fitbit Air syncs to Google Health, Wellness Project reads Google Health, and the MCP connector carries that history to your assistant.

Beyond that sync path, this guide does not go further into what Fitbit Air tracks or how its sensors differ from earlier Fitbit hardware. If a metric shows up in Google Health, it syncs into Wellness Project the same as any other Fitbit device; nothing about the setup changes because the hardware is newer.

Read your Fitbit history in the AI you already use.

Connect Fitbit through Google Health once, then add the MCP connector to Claude, ChatGPT, Grok, or Mistral Le Chat. Free during early access.

Frequently asked questions

How does Fitbit data actually reach Claude, ChatGPT, Grok, or Mistral Le Chat?+

Fitbit ships no MCP server of its own. Wellness Project connects to Fitbit through the Google Health API, stores the synced history, and serves it to Claude, ChatGPT, Grok and Mistral Le Chat over one MCP server. You never point an assistant at Fitbit directly; you connect Fitbit to Wellness Project once, then add the Wellness Project MCP connector to whichever assistant you use.

Does this work with Grok and Mistral Le Chat, or only Claude and ChatGPT?+

All four read the same synced Fitbit history through the same MCP server. Grok registers the connector itself, no Client ID required. Mistral Le Chat is the one assistant that asks for a Client ID before it will connect; the Mistral integration page publishes the one to paste.

What Fitbit data comes through to the AI?+

Whatever Google Health has synced from your Fitbit: steps, Active Zone Minutes, sleep stages, and resting heart rate. Those arrive as structured rows, so an assistant can answer about a trend across weeks instead of a single reading.

Is the connection read-only, and can I turn it off?+

Yes to both. The MCP server only reads the rows an assistant asks for during a conversation; it cannot write to or change your Fitbit history. Two separate grants are involved, Fitbit access and the assistant's connector access, and either one is revocable from your settings at any time.

I only use Claude, or only ChatGPT. Is there a more direct guide?+

Yes. The Fitbit to Claude guide and the Fitbit to ChatGPT guide walk through one assistant at a time with the same Google Health sync step. This page is for anyone comparing assistants or using more than one.
