How to connect Google Health to ChatGPT

Google ships no MCP server for Google Health. Wellness Project connects to Google's Health API over OAuth, holds the synced history, and runs the MCP server ChatGPT reads through its connector. Here is the setup, from your Fitbit account to your first question in the chat.

Why the Fitbit app now says Google Health

If you own a Fitbit, you already have an account here, it just does not look like Fitbit anymore. Your Fitbit device is unchanged. The app it syncs to became Google Health in May 2026, and the Fitbit Web API that developers used sunsets on September 30, 2026, which is why the connection now runs on Google's Health API. Everything on your wrist keeps working exactly as it did.

That is also why some screens in this guide say Google Health and others still say Fitbit. Wellness Project keeps the label Fitbit on the device connection, since Fitbit is the account you are signing into, and reaches it through Google's API underneath. For the full breakdown of Google Fit, Google Health, and Health Connect, and which one applies to you, see Google Fit vs Google Health vs Health Connect.

How ChatGPT reads it as a connector

Google ships no MCP server for Google Health. Wellness Project connects to Google's Health API over OAuth, holds the synced history, and runs the MCP server ChatGPT reads through its connector. ChatGPT never authenticates with Google itself; it authenticates with Wellness Project, which already did the work of syncing and structuring your Fitbit history into rows a conversation can query.

You add that connector to ChatGPT once, as a plugin, and from then on any chat can pull from your synced history. Nothing gets pasted in and nothing expires the next time you start a new conversation.

Set it up in five steps

The setup runs through your Fitbit account and Wellness Project, not a Google developer console or an API key you generate yourself.

  1. 1

    Get the Wellness Project app

Download Wellness Project for iPhone or Android with the buttons above, or sign in on the web. Signing in with Apple or Google takes one tap, the account is free during early access, and this is the app that stores your synced history and serves it to Claude and ChatGPT over MCP.

  2. 2

Connect your Fitbit account in Wellness Project

Open Settings, Devices, Fitbit, and sign in with the same Google Account your Google Health app uses. In Wellness Project this connection is called Fitbit, because Fitbit is the account you own. Google Health is Google's API behind it. Steps, Active Zone Minutes, sleep stages, and resting heart rate sync automatically from there.

  3. 3

Add the Wellness Project MCP connector to ChatGPT

Add Wellness Project as a ChatGPT plugin and authenticate with the key from your account settings. This is the one connection ChatGPT reads your Google Health-sourced data through, so you set it up once rather than pasting a screenshot into every chat.

  4. 4

    Check what synced

Open Wellness Project and confirm steps, Active Zone Minutes, sleep stages, and resting heart rate are populated. You get about a year of history at connect, and it keeps building from there, so ChatGPT has real weeks to compare from your first question.

  5. 5

Ask about your data in plain language

Open a chat and ask. "How did my resting heart rate move this month?" "Did my sleep get worse on high-step days?" "What were my Active Zone Minutes last week?" ChatGPT answers from the structured rows Wellness Project holds, not a pasted screenshot.

For the connector itself and the tool surface it exposes to ChatGPT, see the ChatGPT integration page. This guide is the walkthrough; that page is the product.

Consistency shows up across weeks, not one sync

Google Health tracks Active Zone Minutes by default, a rolling measure of time spent in an elevated heart rate zone across the week rather than credit for one hard session. On its own that number resets every week and does not tell you much. Lined up across a month through ChatGPT, it shows whether your activity is actually holding steady or sliding once a single good day stops carrying the average.

That is the angle worth asking about: not one strong workout, but whether the weeks are consistent. Ask ChatGPT to line up your Active Zone Minutes against your step count and sleep for the last several weeks, and the pattern that comes back is closer to the truth than whatever today happened to look like.

Jamie Reyes reads this for you.

Health Connect is a different product

Google Health is the app your Fitbit data lives in. Health Connect is a separate, Android-only layer that lets other apps share health data with each other on your phone, and Google Health is only one of the apps that can connect through it. If you also have Android data coming from apps other than Fitbit, see connecting Health Connect to AI instead, and the full three-way distinction lives on the Google Fit vs Google Health vs Health Connect comparison.

What to ask ChatGPT once it is connected

The setup pays off once the questions move past a single day. Because ChatGPT reads structured history instead of a pasted number, ask it things a screenshot never could.

Try "How has my resting heart rate trended over the past month?" Try "Which weeks had the most consistent Active Zone Minutes?" Try "Did my sleep hold up during my highest step weeks?" Because the same layer holds every device you connect, those answers can draw on Fitbit alongside Apple Health or Oura, not just one app in isolation.

Give ChatGPT your synced Google Health history.

Connect your Fitbit account through Google Health, add the ChatGPT plugin, and ask about your actual trends. Free during early access.

Frequently asked questions

Does ChatGPT talk to Google Health directly?+

Google ships no MCP server for Google Health. Wellness Project connects to Google's Health API over OAuth, holds the synced history, and runs the MCP server ChatGPT reads through its connector. ChatGPT authenticates with Wellness Project, not with Google, so your Google Account credentials never reach the chat.

Is my Fitbit data in Google Fit or in Google Health?+

Google Health. Google Fit is Google's older fitness app, being wound down since 2024. Google Health is the app your Fitbit data lives in since May 2026, and it is what Wellness Project connects to. See the Google Fit vs Google Health vs Health Connect comparison for the full three-way breakdown.

What data actually syncs into ChatGPT?+

Steps, Active Zone Minutes, sleep stages, and resting heart rate sync from your Fitbit account through Google's Health API into Wellness Project, and ChatGPT reads those same structured rows. You get about a year of history at connect, and it keeps building from there, so a question can span weeks instead of one day.

Can ChatGPT change my Google Health data, and can I revoke access?+

No, access is read-only. ChatGPT can request rows during a conversation but cannot write anything back to your Fitbit account or Google Health. The connection is authenticated with a key you generate in your Wellness Project account settings, and revoking that key closes it immediately.

Does this work if I use Claude instead of ChatGPT?+

Yes, the same synced history. Wellness Project exposes your Google Health data over one MCP server, so Claude reads it through its connector the same way ChatGPT reads it through the plugin. See the Connect Google Health to Claude guide if Claude is your main assistant; the account connection step is identical.
