Google Health is the Fitbit app, renamed
Your Fitbit device is unchanged. The app it syncs to became Google Health in May 2026, and the Fitbit Web API that developers used sunsets on September 30, 2026, which is why the connection now runs on Google's Health API.
If you are still sorting out what Google Fit, Google Health, and Health Connect actually are, the Google Fit vs Google Health vs Health Connect comparison covers the full picture. This guide only covers getting your Google Health data into Claude.
How Claude reads it over MCP
Google ships no MCP server for Google Health. Wellness Project connects to Google's Health API over OAuth, holds the synced history, and runs the MCP server Claude reads.
Claude never talks to Google's Health API directly and never holds a standing copy of your account. It reads structured rows from Wellness Project's MCP server, on request, inside a chat, which is a narrower path than handing an app your Google credentials.
Set it up in five steps
Four pieces line up in order: your Google Health account connected to Wellness Project, the sync completing, the MCP connector added to Claude, and then you ask. Each step takes about a minute.
Get the Wellness Project app
Download Wellness Project for iPhone or Android with the buttons above, or sign in on the web. Signing in with Apple or Google takes one tap, the account is free during early access, and this is the app that stores your synced history and serves it to Claude and ChatGPT over MCP.
Connect your Fitbit account in Wellness Project
Open Settings, Devices, Fitbit, and authorize through Google's Health API. In Wellness Project this connection is called Fitbit, because Fitbit is the account you own. Google Health is Google's API behind it. Steps, Active Zone Minutes, sleep stages, and resting heart rate sync automatically once it is authorized.
Add the Wellness Project MCP connector to Claude
In claude.ai, add wellnessproject.ai/api/mcp as a custom connector and authorize it through your Wellness Project account. Claude Desktop syncs the connector from claude.ai.
Check what synced
Open Wellness Project and confirm steps, sleep stages, Active Zone Minutes, and resting heart rate are showing up. You get about a year of history at connect, and it keeps building from there, so this is the history Claude will have to work with from the first question.
Ask about your data in plain language
Open a chat and ask. Claude reads the structured rows Wellness Project synced from Google Health and answers against your own numbers rather than a generic average.
Google Health is not Health Connect
Google Health is the consumer app your Fitbit data lives in now. Health Connect is a separate, Android-only layer that lets apps share data with each other on the device. If you are looking to connect Health Connect itself rather than a Fitbit-linked Google Health account, see connecting Google Health Connect to AI, and the full comparison if you are still sorting out which product is which.
What to ask Claude once it is connected
The connection is only worth it if the questions get better. Try "How many steps have I averaged each week this month?" "What do my sleep stages look like on nights after a hard workout?" or "How has my resting heart rate moved over the past few months?" Claude answers from the synced rows rather than a single day's screen.
Give Claude your real Google Health history.
Connect your Fitbit account through Google's Health API, add the MCP connector to Claude, and ask about your actual trends. Free during early access.
