How to export Apple Health data

Apple's Health app can create a complete data export, useful for sharing, backup, or looking at your history outside the app. Here is how to export it and an easier way to keep the data current afterward.

Evelyn Cross, AI longevity advisorReviewed by Evelyn Cross · AI longevity advisor

What you get when you export

Apple's built-in export creates a complete data export from the Health app. It is useful when you want a copy for your own records, need to share your history, or want to move the data elsewhere.

Export your data in four steps

The whole process runs inside the Health app on your iPhone.

  1. 1

    Open the Health app

On your iPhone, open the Health app and go to the Summary tab.

  2. 2

Tap your profile picture or initials

In the top-right corner, tap your profile picture or initials to open your Health settings.

  3. 3

    Select "Export All Health Data"

Scroll down and tap "Export All Health Data," then confirm the export and let the Health app prepare it.

  4. 4

    Save the export

Use the iOS share sheet to save the export somewhere you trust.

A backup is a snapshot; a live history is a coach

An Apple Health export is useful when you need a copy for a doctor, a backup, or another service. It captures your history at that point in time rather than continuing to update as new data arrives.

Wellness Project keeps supported Apple Health data connected and keeps answering new questions as new data arrives.

Evelyn Cross reads this for you.

Keep it connected instead of exporting again

If you want to keep asking questions about your data over time, a connected history saves you from creating another static export each time.

Wellness Project connects to Apple Health directly, so your history stays current and an AI coach can answer questions about it in plain language. See the Apple Health integration or connect it to Claude and ask about your own data directly.

Keep your Apple Health data connected, not exported once.

Wellness Project keeps supported Apple Health history connected and queryable by an AI coach. Free Basic, with Founder Pro at $4.99/month through October 15. iPhone, Android, and web.

Frequently asked questions

What does Apple Health export?+

Apple Health creates a complete data export from the Health app that you can save or share for your own records.

Can I export just one metric, like steps or sleep?+

Not from the Health app itself. "Export All Health Data" exports the available history together rather than letting you choose one metric or date range first.

Is there an easier way to keep this data usable?+

A one-time export is useful for sharing or backup, but it does not update as new health data is recorded. Wellness Project keeps supported Apple Health data connected so your history stays current.
