How to connect Garmin to Claude

Garmin has no direct Wellness Project integration. Garmin Connect writes your data to Apple Health on iPhone or Health Connect on Android, and Wellness Project reads that hub and serves it to Claude over one MCP connection.

What Claude can and cannot see

Once your Garmin history reaches Wellness Project, Claude can read the metrics Garmin Connect writes into Apple Health or Health Connect: steps, sleep, heart rate, workouts, and HRV where Garmin Connect exports it. Those arrive as structured rows, not a raw export, so Claude reads a trend across weeks instead of a single day's number.

A few Garmin-native scores, like training status and Body Battery, are computed inside Garmin's own app and do not always write to the hub as standalone values, so Claude cannot see those specific numbers. The raw signals behind them, heart rate, pace, and sleep, usually do cross, and Claude reads those directly.

Is there a Garmin MCP server?

There is no Garmin MCP server. The path is Garmin to Garmin Connect to Apple Health or Health Connect to Wellness Project to Claude, over one MCP connection. That connector is not something Garmin builds. Wellness Project runs the MCP server, and it reads whatever Garmin Connect has already synced into your phone's health hub, then makes that history available to Claude in a single chat.

Setting it up means three things line up: Garmin Connect writing to the hub, Wellness Project reading that hub, and the Wellness Project connector added to Claude. Once those are in place, a normal Claude conversation can read your Garmin history.

Set it up in five steps

Four pieces line up in order: Garmin writing to your phone's health hub, Wellness Project reading that hub, the MCP connector added to Claude, and then you ask. Each step takes about a minute and the setup is one-time.

  1. 1

    Get the Wellness Project app

Download Wellness Project for iPhone or Android with the buttons above, or sign in on the web. Signing in with Apple or Google takes one tap, the account is free during early access, and this is the app that stores your synced history and serves it to Claude and ChatGPT over MCP.

  2. 2

Let Garmin Connect write to your phone's health hub

On iPhone, open Garmin Connect, go to Settings, then Apple Health, and turn on the categories you want shared: steps, workouts, heart rate, and sleep. On Android, grant Garmin Connect permission to write to Health Connect. This is the step that puts your Garmin data somewhere Wellness Project can read it.

  3. 3

Connect Wellness Project to that hub

In Wellness Project, open integrations and connect Apple Health or Health Connect, then grant read access. Whatever Garmin Connect has written into the hub, steps, sleep, heart rate, workouts, and HRV where Garmin Connect exports it, syncs into your Wellness Project history.

  4. 4

Add the Wellness Project MCP connector to Claude

In claude.ai, add wellnessproject.ai/api/mcp as a custom connector and authorize it through your Wellness Project account. Claude Desktop syncs the connector from claude.ai. This is the single MCP connection in the whole path.

  5. 5

Ask about your data in plain language

Open a chat and ask about your Garmin history directly. Claude reads the structured rows Wellness Project relayed from the hub and answers against your own training data instead of a generic average.

Reading your Garmin training history against your own baseline

Garmin skews toward pace and training load, and that is exactly what a full history is good for. Once your runs, heart rate, and sleep sit in one structured store, Claude can compare this week's pace against your last month instead of a generic training chart.

The same read applies to recovery. Resting heart rate and weekly running volume, tracked together over weeks, show whether a heavier block is trending the way past blocks did for you, read against your own baseline rather than someone else's plan.

Elias Kiptoo reads this for you.

What to ask Claude once it is connected

The best questions span time, since Claude reads your history rather than a single sync. Try "How has my resting heart rate trended over the past month?" "What was my weekly running volume for the last four weeks?" or "Did my sleep get shorter the week my mileage went up?" Claude answers from the structured rows Wellness Project relayed from Apple Health or Health Connect, not a screenshot or a single day's number.

Give Claude your Garmin training history.

Let Garmin Connect write to Apple Health or Health Connect, connect that hub to Wellness Project, and add the MCP connector to Claude. Free during early access.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a Garmin MCP server?+

There is no Garmin MCP server. The path is Garmin to Garmin Connect to Apple Health or Health Connect to Wellness Project to Claude, over one MCP connection. Wellness Project runs that MCP server itself, reading whatever Garmin Connect has already synced into your phone's health hub and serving it to Claude through a single connector.

What Garmin metrics can Claude see?+

Claude can read the metrics Garmin Connect writes into Apple Health or Health Connect: steps, sleep, heart rate, workouts, and HRV where Garmin Connect exports it. Garmin-proprietary scores like training status and Body Battery are computed inside Garmin's own app and do not always write to the hub as standalone values, so Claude cannot see those specific numbers, though the heart rate and sleep data behind them usually comes through.

Is my Garmin data safe to connect this way?+

Claude does not get a copy of your whole record. Through the MCP connector it requests specific rows during an active conversation, and only those rows travel. Access is gated by an OAuth grant to Apple Health or Health Connect and a separate authorization for the Claude connector, both of which you can revoke from your settings.

Does this work with other devices, or with ChatGPT?+

Yes. The same Wellness Project connector reads whatever you have linked, so a Garmin watch alongside Apple Health, Fitbit, or Oura all land in one history that Claude can read together. ChatGPT can read the same history through the Wellness Project plugin, using the same relay through Apple Health or Health Connect.

Do I need to change anything in Garmin Connect first?+

Yes, one setting. Garmin Connect has to be writing to Apple Health or Health Connect before Wellness Project has anything to read, so confirm the health sync toggle is on and the categories you want, like heart rate and sleep, are shared before connecting Wellness Project.
